SJV Long-Term Care Priest Wing

Project Overview

In collaboration with the Hamilton Diocese, this 8,200-square-foot East Wing renovation was designed to provide a comfortable and welcoming home for retired Diocese priests at St. Joseph’s Villa in Dundas, Ontario.

Project Scope:

  • Interior demolition and hazardous material abatement.
  • Renovation of eight private apartments with elegant finishes and a focus on barrier-free washroom design, incorporating grab bars and non-slip surfaces for safety and accessibility.
  • Creation of a chapel, kitchen, laundry facility, and common areas.
  • Upgrades to mechanical and electrical systems throughout the facility.
  • Exterior improvements, including parking lot upgrades, improved access and drainage, enhanced lighting, and the construction of a new solarium.

Living Model & Communal Spaces:

  • Designed to foster a strong sense of community.
  • Features a shared kitchen and dining room for communal meals, a lounge for socializing, a chapel for prayer and services, and a solarium with year-round views of the Dundas Valley.

Demolition & Reconstruction:

  • Removal of existing finishes and structural elements, from floor slab to ceiling, including masonry and precast concrete surfaces.
  • Demolition of all interior walls, except for essential shaft walls.
  • Replacement of mechanical and electrical systems, except those serving other areas of the building.

The vision for the St. John Vianney Residence was realized through a partnership between St. Joseph’s Villa Foundation, St. Joseph’s Villa, Bishop Douglas Crosby, OMI, and The Roman Catholic Diocese of Hamilton.
