St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church

Project Overview

Ira McDonald Construction was awarded the contract to construct the first new Catholic church on HaIra McDonald Construction was awarded the contract to construct the first new Catholic church on Hamilton Mountain in nearly 50 years. Situated on an 8-acre site, the new St. Catherine of Siena Church is a landmark blend of tradition and innovation. 

Highlights 

  • 750-seat nave with custom wood pews and three striking 11.4m x 13.8m curtainwall windows featuring modern steel tracery
  • 28m-high structure featuring natural Adair limestone, aluminum composite panels, and a geometric steel tile roof (25,000 tiles)
  • Interior finishes include oak woodwork, Italian porcelain tile flooring, sacred stone elements, and custom gothic doors
  • Facility also includes a narthex, parish hall (150 seats), meeting and board rooms, offices, and a commercial-grade kitchen
  • Structural system features reinforced slab, concealed grade beams, and 746 tons of complex steel framing
  • Advanced mechanical systems are entirely concealed, including in-ground HVAC units and rooftop mezzanine housing three large AHUs 
  • One of the largest Structural Insulated Panel (SIP) roofing projects in North America 
  • Acoustically refined interiors using arched fiberglass ceilings, red oak paneling, and a Bose AV system
